Pizza Express Have Finally Got Gluten Free Friendly!

Pizza Express Have Finally Got Gluten Free Friendly!

I went to Pizza Express last weekend with my friend Lou and did a double take when I opened the menu – they now offer a whole range of gluten-free options! I have to say I got a little bit overexcited at this as I love Pizza Express (probably one of the only chain restaurants I do like along with Nandos – also great if you are gluten-free).

“We’re pleased to be able to introduce a gluten-free range for all our customers who need to avoid gluten. From risotto to pizza to brownie and even an award winning Pilsner beer, gluten-free.

As well as the products tasting great, we’ve worked closely with Coeliac UK to make sure that all our new dishes can be certified as No Gluten-Containing Ingredients, introducing new kitchen processes and even gluten-free flour in our kitchens.”

I will definitely be taking my mum there soon (she is Celiac) so we can try out some of the gluten free options! One that immediately caught my eye was this:

NewGluten-Free Brownie

Soft and chocolatey, a classic brownie recipe using gluten-free flour, topped with fresh strawberry and icing sugar

Gluten-Free Brownie is vegetarianGluten-Free Brownie is gluten-free

You can order any of their pizza’s as gluten free which is great!  Take a look at their Gluten Free Menu

If anyone has been to try out their gluten free menu please leave a comment and let me know what you thought :)

Where Was The Customer Service #ChefsUnite?

Where Was The Customer Service #ChefsUnite?

Two completely seperate events have led to me ask this question – What has happened to customer service?

1) A few weeks ago I visited a local restaurant in Norwich with my partner. We went to the restaurant in question on a Friday night for a little celebration (as I had recently got a new job).  The restaurant was pretty, not too busy,  nicely decorated and the menu looked delicious. As always when I go somewhere for a meal I like to do a blog about it when I get home for my gluten free followers. However, this time that didn’t happen. Our meals came out – I had ordered slow cooked lamb which was perfectly cooked, however my partner had ordered pork loin and he mentioned that it was quite dry. I tried a bit of his and agreed - it was dry and a bit overcooked.

Moods, Money and Meal-Plans

Moods, Money and Meal-Plans

This past month has been quite tough – I lost my job a a few weeks ago as a Marketing Manager. For the first week I was a big mess of emotion – I went from feeling angry and confused one minute to sad, lost and despondent the next (I don’t know how my OH put up with me…).

Naked and Gluten Free

Naked and Gluten Free

I was sent a huge mixed box of Nakd bars the other day after being contacted by them about my blog. I love these bars and couldn’t wait to taste all the flavours I hadn’t got round to trying yet.

The Last Brasserie

The Last Brasserie

One of my favourite restaurants in The Golden Triangle area of Norwich was
103 situated on Unthank Road. I was upset when it closed, but when I heard that The Last Wine Bar were opening it as The Last Brasserie I couldn’t wait to go and check it out…

Are you missing Beer on the Gluten Free Diet?

Are you missing Beer on the Gluten Free Diet?

One of the main thing’s my OH really misses is beer. Sure you can buy gluten-free beer in the supermarkets but at £8 for four tiny bottles it’s a bit of a rip off. He doesn’t mind having wine or cider when we go out to restaurants or to a bar but I can tell sometimes he would give anything to have a pint of beer.

I have, however discovered a great place to go in Norwich if you are missing beer and want a greater choice than the one kind you can (sometimes) get in restaurants. It is of course The Belgian Monk.

Birthday at Le Gavroche

Birthday at Le Gavroche

I have always dreamed of going to Le Gavroche ever since I met Michelle Roux Jnr at MasterChef Live 2010. I queued for ages to get two signed copies of his cookbook ‘Cooking with The Master Chef’ – one for me and one for my mum. He personalised the signatures and I also got a photo with him – he is such a lovely man (I do have a slight crush on him!).

It was my 26th birthday last week and my OH decided to take me to London for the night to stay in The Intercontinental Park Lane and booked a table at Le Gavroche as he knew how much I wanted to go there. The table was booked for 10pm as although we rang a few months in advance all lunch tables and evening tables from 6-9 are booked up 4 months in advance!

Truly Scrumptious Carrot Cake (Gluten-Free)

Truly Scrumptious Carrot Cake (Gluten-Free)

I absolutely love carrot cake. I think it tastes great on it’s own, with a cup of tea, or even as a dessert with some vanilla ice-cream! Therefore it was extremely important to me to perfect a gluten-free version without losing any moisture or taste – I think this recipe actually tastes better than most carrot cakes I have had before going gluten-free! It is also under 300 cals a piece so you don’t have to feel guilty afterwards!

I decided to make two cakes and took one round to my Fiance’s parents (his mum is Coeliac) the other weekend. We went to collect the plate we took it on a few days later and they had already polished it off! However, his mum was not best pleased –  it turned out his dad (who is not Coeliac) ate most of it and she hardly got any! So ladies – hide it from the men!

Cupcakes and Tears

Cupcakes and Tears

On Friday 9 March 2012 it was my last day working as Marketing & Communications Coordinator at The Forum in Norwich. I worked there for just over a year and absolutely loved it – my job, the building, the events, the staff, the surroundings, and all the wonderful people I met working there. But my career goal has always to become a Marketing Manager – and it was finally time to put my brave face on and take that step!

Gluten Free Vanilla Slices

Gluten Free Vanilla Slices

I love cakes and pastries but I didn’t think it would be possible to ever have puff pastry again on a gluten free diet. However, this recipe from my mum shows that you can. It does take a bit of time and can be a bit tricky – but boy was it worth it!
